Reconstructing the Body

Reconstructing the Body brings together three earlier series—Body Study, Self-Portrait, and Note—through which I approached the human body as something that could be fragmented, transformed, and reconstructed. Body Study isolates organic contours, volumes, curves, and proportions from recognizable anatomy. Self-Portrait shifts toward the symbolic and totemic presence of the face, influenced by Korean Jangseung. In Note, bodily elements, fragments, traces, contours, and spatial relationships are reorganized across forms and materials. Across the three series, the body becomes less a fixed image to reproduce than a structure that can be separated, rearranged, and reconstructed while retaining a bodily presence. Together, these works became a foundation for developing my sculptural language beyond direct representation.
