Malin Gabriella Nordin is one of my absolute favourite artists, as evidence by the sheer sheer of times I’ve posted about her (here, here, here, here, here). I came across this wonderful video after posting the Anton Alvarez profile from the same Vans Documentary Series a couple days ago. This is honestly one of the best artist profiles I’ve seen (all credit to Vincent Skoglund who beautifully captured it). It got me super pumped to go and make stuff, and I could relate so much to her and her desire to create quickly!
I’m so inspired! Highly recommend watching this video below!
Ophir Kutiel aka Kutiman, is the Youtube generation’s DJ Shadow. He scours Youtube for obscure musical treasures; kids playing piano, guitar tutorials, anything he can use to make a song. Somehow he is able to weave the unrelated clips into something completely new. I’ve blogged about him numerous times but it all started with his project Thru You.
5 years later, Kutiman is set to release his follow up, Thru You Too, and his first single “Give It Up” is a masterpiece. Watch the video below!
Vancouver-based artist Ed Spence is making some of my favourite work right now. I dropped by his studio a couple weeks ago and I couldn’t leave without buying a piece. Let me explain to you what you’re looking at.
Ed takes a photograph of a crumpled piece of reflective paper. Then he prints the image and cuts out a section of it using a blade. He carefully cuts up the section into small “pixels” and re-arranges them based on colour. So if you were to run your hand along the finished photograph you would feel the texture of the cut pieces.
You kinda have to see these in person to really get the full effect. Really fantastic stuff! Lots more images below. The one I bought is the next one down.
